One of my old colleagues messaged me today to organise a karaoke get together.

Can I just say that I love karaoke. I’m a bloody terrible singer but isn’t that the reason the room is so dark and dingy?

Anyway sadly I spend a good part of today having a think about what songs I could belt without sounding too terrible before I found this fantastic channel youtube – The Karaoke Channel!

I’ve just spent the last 5 minutes belting out “If I ain’t got you” by Alicia Keys.

Cinematic Orchestra

August 28, 2010

I’ve been listening to Cinematic Orchestra a lot lately. Their jazz/electro album Ma Fleur is quite old, but every now one of their song pops up in a tv show and I end up digging up and listening to the album on repeat for weeks after.

I’m excited that I’ll be seeing these guys in November and no doubt they will play ‘To build a home’ – at which point I might actually cry.

Such a powerful song. Patrick Watson‘s vocal are stunningly haunting and very reminiscent of Chris Martin.

As part of the late night BBC Prom sessions, we saw Jamie Cullum play at Royal Albert Hall last night. Not only is the venue spectacular, he was pretty damn amazing. I’m actually not that big of a fan, but his cover of ‘What a difference a day made’ nearly killed me. Amazing.

This version was filmed a while back.

How, when and why has the macaron reached such cult status as the king of all desserts?

I too adore them to death – but I hate that I just cannot for the life of me bake them. Using the David Lebovitz recipe that the whole world swears by, my macarons are instead craparons.

For now I will just have to shell out £1.80 a piece at Laduree or Pierre Herme, or these very cute and colourful creations at Yauatcha.
